In the heart of Hvar, in the green oasis known as “Šumica” near Veneranda, a new 3×3 basketball court has opened, already changing the face of the town’s sporting life. The project came to life thanks to the joint effort of the PRO 3X3 TOUR organizers, the PRO3X3 association which donated the flooring and hoop, and the support of the City of Hvar. Special credit also goes to the volunteers who devoted their holiday morning to the community, showing how sport can be a strong driver of cooperation and togetherness.
The project also received strong support from the Hvar Tourist Board, which recognizes the importance of sport and active holidays in developing the destination’s offer and promoting Hvar as a place that goes beyond the classic summer experience.
The court is more than just a place to play; it is a symbol of the idea that sport belongs to everyone. It is free to use and open to all visitors, whether you are a guest looking to spend an active afternoon or a local resident in search of a space for recreation and socializing. The rules are simple: respect it, keep it safe for the future, and play smart. The organizers’ message “Play hard. Play smart.” perfectly captures the spirit of this sporting spot.
Setting up the court is only the first step. The second phase will include installing lighting, protective nets, and stands, creating a more complete experience for both players and spectators. The ultimate goal lies in the third phase, which envisions the creation of a 3×3 Center of Excellence in Hvar. In cooperation with the local club KK Hvar and with the expertise of PRO3X3 association, this center would provide young athletes with the opportunity to develop their talent and learn from the best. This would make Hvar one of the few places in the Mediterranean with serious infrastructure dedicated to this young Olympic sport.
The new court is not an isolated project. Its story is closely connected to the international PRO 3X3 Tour tournament that has been taking place in Hvar in recent years. Since the first edition in 2023, when the attractive basketball format drew the attention of both locals and tourists on the main square, all the way to this year’s tournament in May 2025, Hvar has positioned itself as one of the key locations for the development of 3×3 basketball in Croatia. The tournament has brought not only high-level competitions but also educational activities for children, workshops, and social events. This unique blend of sport and tourism has shown how 3×3 basketball can contribute to the community, and the new court is a natural continuation of that story.
For visitors to the island, the court offers a new opportunity for active holidays. After a day at the beach or exploring cultural landmarks, you can stop by “Šumica” and play a quick game with friends or meet new people through basketball. Its free access and open character make it an ideal gathering spot, and its location near the historic Veneranda adds a special touch.
The project slogan “Small court, big dreams” perfectly describes the initiative. This is a small court, but with a vision that goes far beyond its boundaries. It is not only a sports ground but also a symbol of investment in the community, youth, and the future of Hvar. In time, with the addition of lighting, stands, and the Center of Excellence, this space could become a central hub for athletes, children, and families, as well as a must-visit place for all who want to experience Hvar in a different way – through sport, energy, and togetherness.

Now it adds a new sporting dimension that brings the town closer to the modern concept of a destination offering a complete experience, from cultural and historical heritage to recreation and active holidays.
