From 19 to 25 October 2026, Hvar will once again host the international chess tournament 5th Open Hvar, bringing players from Croatia and around the world to the historic Arsenal. 5th Open Hvar 2026 – International Chess Tournament at the Arsenal Organised by Hvar Chess Club, the fifth edition of the tournament continues a tradition that began in 2022. Over seven days, the Arsenal will become a meeting place for local and international players, including grandmasters, international masters, young talents and chess enthusiasts. The 5th Open Hvar 2026 will be played over nine rounds according to the Swiss system and will be rated for the international FIDE rating. The time control is 90 minutes, with an increment of 30 seconds per move from the first move. In addition to the main tournament, the 5th Blitz Hvar 2026 will take place on Wednesday, 21 October, featuring ten rounds of fast-paced chess. The combined prize fund for the Open and Blitz tournaments amounts to €22,200, with €20,000 allocated to the main Open tournament. Prizes will also be awarded across several categories, including women, young players, veterans and different rating groups.
